It's always nice when alumnis return to school to give a talk to the current batch of students. We get insights of their personal journeys in the same school we are studying in and how much work he had to clock in before being very good at what he does.
I'm still surprised that Victric didn't consider filmmaking as an immediate career after graduation because of the lecturers' high regards for him and how amazing his works are. And in my own personal train of thoughts, i really wondered what he went through in school during his time as compared to mine. Might i be in the same path as him?
The whole time, i was comparing my education to his. From what I know, block teaching didn't start until 2/3 or 4 years back? So i really thought Victric had a more wholesome education than us. I mean, if you consider the fact that we get to learn a certain module for a month only. There's only so much you can do in a month. And lecturers are always encouraging us to explore the lessons further by ourselves. I personally find it impossible especially if you only learned photoshop for 3 days minimum and you wanna be more advanced in it, but in the next block you're having two modules. Unless you wanna sacrifice nights lah.
There are other thoughts like whether design school in JAE was a good idea and other thoughts.
In simpler terms, i'm jealous of victric.
Because his films are uber awesome. It really sucks if you were watching them and you happen to sit not to far a distance people who has no real interest in filmmaking a.k.a doesn't understand anything in the films. It really demoralises me when they feel restless and starts saying things like, "Wt* i don't understand this s***." and "I wanna sleep siah."
Someone down two rows from mine was explaining one of the camera angles in CLOSER A P A R T, when the shot gave the illusion that they are near but are actually almost a meter away from each other, and how it relates to the title and the story.
The person next to her just shrugged.
But Victric shed new light on a passion i've not considered before. I always thought that Hollywood was big and all. It's big and rich, i'll give you tht. But i feel that local filmmaking is more sentimental to me. I wanna be ticketboy next singapore films festival.
As for the assignment.
We decided to focus on a few selected points from our mindmap of Singaporean culture between the young and older generations.
We then split ourselves to online research team and survey/on-field research.
I think things are going slow and steady. Which is fine. Coz you know, we're cool and we are hip.
Lollololololololol.
It's a very weird feeling to suddenly use the design process again afetr how many months since ComDI. It's like we already know this stuff but then when it comes to the real thing, guess what, we're stuck.
Not exactly, but i hope it won't happen.
